This is my first baby Frida, dressed in my interpretation of her famous Tehuana dress from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This was a traditional Mexican dress style with her own personal flair and idiosyncratic touches. One of many women artists and characters that I greatly admire. Her iconic style confronts you but her philosophy of life was inspired. This little girl will be coming with Reuba and I to the Liverpool Alternative Bazaar on 4th May from 4pm until 9pm at Camp and Furnace. Along with new Imp Frogs and lots of gifts.
Been busy making little gifts for our first show. I really enjoyed making these little folk art brooches but there are finger mice, hanging birds and porcelain beetles too. Worked on black silk the colours just pop and I like how they look finished. The little necklaces are new to me and were fun to make. Reuba is starting to feel more confident with their embroidery and hopefully will be adding their brooches to the collection. Wonderfully weird motifs, completely off the wall! The froads are now in production and will be launching at Camp and Furnace on the 4th of May with Liverpool Alternative Bazaar - come and say hello if you are about.Have a lovely peaceful Easter weekend and my warmest wishes to you all xx
This is Little Elphaba, with her ruby slippers. She is a fairy tale and fable style doll with living green skin and a dark grey glass eye. Her hair is jet black wool tops and her facial features are hand embroidered. She sports a charcoal grey felt witch hat with green and purple leaves while her dress is a Moda Grunge black cotton called Onyx. Peeping beneath her dress are Liberty print petticoats in purple and green with a black tulle underskirt. She is wearing her purple lined black felt cloak for a midnight walk under the stars. Her tiny boots match her hat and are in charcoal wool felt. She was a joy to make and is coming with me to Liverpool Alternative Bazaar on the 4th of May.
I have no new dolls to share this Friday as I am flat our with a nasty earache and have not managed any photographs. Every time I sit up I keel over and every time I stand up I fall over so I have had to keep still for a week which I have not enjoyed but read a few good books. As soon as I am back on my feet I will take photos of the dolls waiting and of the embroidery I have been doing. We are getting ready for our first show of the season in May and Reuban's frogs are looking simply wonderful and froady. Exciting stuff on the horizon.I am working on a little girl Wednesday and a little witch Elphaba all in the fairytale and fable style whilst planning Heidi with Hansel and Gretel on my drawing board. Mr Mole is still not ready as no matter how I try I don't like his paws. He must have claws for digging and I cannot get them right!Whilst propped up on cushions I have had the joy of watching the garden come to life and seeing the magnolia bloom and the camellia come into bud. Last autumn I planted more crocus bulbs into the lawn and tried again with fritillary. Low and behold we have just the one little white fritillary nodding her head in the spring sunshine - made me smile xx
