Briar, a bullfinch doll

Made Briar to celebrate my bullfinches coming back to the garden. Have had a terrible trouble with a pesky rat visiting the garden all winter.  He started coming in November and stayed, eventually all the birds left and even the squirrels got fed up with him. I don't like the idea of poison but my neighbour got him with a trap.  As soon as he was gone within the week all the birds came back, really happy.  So Briar was made!

All her plumage is delineated with stitch, no paint, giving her a deep textural look and feel. She is embroidered front and back making a lovely rich doll.  This little bird is dressed in a pretty Liberty print called Edenham with rich purples, grey and blacks that just set off her embroidery details. Love maaking my little birds, all that stitch, delicious xx

Tuesday Talent, Edith Blue Dolls

Two doll makers, creative friends, Gilly and Jill make these delightful cloth dolls from a little wooden cabin at the bottom of their garden in Woodbridge in the county of Suffolk. A beautiful part of England in the east of the country.

It is the faces and the lovely details I find so appealing. The faces are hand embroidered in a distinct style and the hair is usually yarn with interesting clothes and little accessories all in varying fabrics and yarns. They use a lot of Liberty a particular favourite of mine.

I follow them on Etsy at
www.etsy.com/uk/shop/EdithBlueDolls
and they have a lovely story on Instagram, well worth having a peep at. A twist on a traditional doll done very well.

Damson, A Daisy Mouse

Damson is a little daisy mouse with leather ears and a leather tail. She is a tiny mouse dressed in Liberty Quilting Cotton and finished with organza ribbon and tiny buttons. She has little leather shoes and striped legs. She has a crocheted daisy on her little bag.

Like all my dolls she has a rose quartz crystal to her heart and lavender in her stuffing for a gentle scent. I make more mice that any other doll and love making them.  I hope you like her xx

Rhona, A Rhoda Doll

I have neglected my blog and this stops now, it is a lovely record of my development from a tinkerer in doll making to a busy full time doll maker and I want to continue that. That being said I wanted to share Rhona a doll made to my Rhoda doll pattern that has just been purchased so I want a record of her.
I had not made these dolls for some time and then a lovely lady called Samara asked for one to be commissioned for her Mum's birthday.  She wanted the Rhoda doll to have her colouring and her style of clothes so I revisited a long abandoned pattern and thoroughly enjoyed making her. So I made a few more.
Rhona is 50cm tall and is a long slim doll with big bottom! She is dressed in a pretty Liberty Lawn called Poppy and Daisy in delicate shades of pink and green.  She sports a cute little beret in blackberry cotton and a little embroidered sachet with her name embroidered upon it. She makes a lovely girl in soft pastels that I am very happy to have made.
