Rosa, A Nod to Valentine's Day

Rosa is a little Fairy God Mother with a nod to Valentine's Day. With hearts to her sampler pillow both stitched and as charms. She carries a little heart shaped wand to bestow the gift of love.
She has a piece of rose quartz to her heart and rose petals in her stuffing for romance with a tiny coronet in her hair.
Her dress is made from Acufactum cotton fabric in a raspberry red and rose pink confection called Simply Love. Beneath she sports broderie anglais drawers with red cotton and white tulle lace petticoats. Her shoes are raspberry leather. She is a sweet girl with a quiet joy to her.

Maysant and Samer Grumpy Frogs for Spring

Maysant and Samer have just landed in the shop, along with the first of the spring mice. All dressed in Liberty fabrics and looking very smart!
Maysant and Samer have Liberty Piccadilly Poplin Wonder Garden as their fabric teamed with olive chambray cotton and tweedy plus fours. Maysant carried her sampler pillow and Samer has a strong bag to carry their finds. Each little bag is sporting a smart bronze dragonfly charm.
Both have river glass from the Yarrow to their heart with fennel and rosemary to the stuffing. Each has a hand painted and hand embroidered face. They are both wearing stout galoshes for stomping round the river and each has a brass ring to their back to hang. I must confess to loving the very froggy fabric. Rich in greens, teals and greys.
I am finally getting back on track, back in the workshop and making again. Nearly caught up with myself. I have found getting going in this new year quite hard, which is unusual for me. Maybe all the grey skies and freezing rain have had more of an effect than I realise. It seems forever since I saw the sun! Have a lovely weekend and my warmest wishes xx

Freya and Working in Winter

Little Freya is a modified badger pattern. She is the same height but much wider to give you the power of a badger head and shoulders. She is another little tweedy woodland character with lavender in her stuffing and a piece of amethyst to her heart. Her silk cravat is lilac and her boots are a deep purple leather as is her foraging bag. All ready for tramping though the woods.
I am a little behind with both my stock and with my photographs of new makes. It was so very cold and snowy we could not work in the workshop and have effectively lost a week. It was so cold it would have cost a fortune to heat and maintain that heat for working. That is the only downside of working in the woods in winter.
So back at work today and looking forward to it xx

Brynhild, A Tweedy River Frog

Brynhild is a tweedy river frog, dressed for a chilly walk by the Yarrow. Her little green leather bag sports a bronze dragonfly and is ready to hold all her finds for the day.
Her cuffed shirt is in Olive Chambray and her emerald cravat is in silk. With cream drawers and cream tulle petticoats she is well wrapped for the chilly days.
I have started off this week working on another pair of frogs and the little girl is finished but the freezing temperatures are keeping out of the workshop. Which is frustrating so I am embroidering skirts for future spring mice. It has been bitterly cold the last three days having snowed and then frozen hard. I hope everyone is keeping safe and keeping warm, I am sending my warmest wishes to you all xx

Agnes, A Winter Rabbit

Agnes is ready for her walk around the fields, with her sturdy bag to collect her foraging. Her chunky boots help her through the frosty grass.
Dressed in warm tweedy yarn dyes she has a palette of pinks and peaches. From her cuffed shirt to her waistcoat she is cosy and warm. Her cravat is silk and she has an amethyst crystal to her heart with lavender in her stuffing. Finished with tiny buttons and an acorn charm to her satchel she is a sweet natured winter rabbit.
We are back into the swing of things now, I never really stopped working but I am back in the flow of creativity now and enjoying myself. Working on two commissions and two frogs with spring mice the next project to start.

Asta and Arne, New Pattern for 2025

This is Arne and Asta, two little deer in winter tweeds. A new pattern for 2025. Each little deer is hand detailed with embroidery and a little paint. The huge noses are embroidered with french knots whilst their eyes are painted and then detailed with embroidery.
Each is wearing the palest blue yarn dyed cuffed shirt with a silk cravat. Their waistcoats compliment each other and each carries a leather foraging bag with stout boots to walk on the woods.
I learnt a lot developing this pattern and had to really look at different species of deer to get the look. We don't have many deer in our area and so they are an unknown to me as a sight on my walks. I never realised only female reindeer have antlers and no other doe species does!
Well, we are open, up and running for 2025. The Folksy shop is updated with a collection of winter tweed animals and I have two slots for commissions this month left, should anyone wish. I hope everyone gets off to a great start in 2025 xx
